annapurna_2Are people really blasting JM because he's allegedly (since it's not officially confirmed yet) signed up for a role on Smallville?
Apparently, I don't frequent those boards and/or LJs, so I haven't seen it myself. Sorry to hear it, though.
On the other hand, can't say it really surprises me. Speculation seems to have been running rampant since the rumor broke, and that sort of thing tends to really build up excitement and anticipation. With all the high hopes expressed, a backlash of disappointment was pretty much a given. Sad, but perfectly human.
Personally, though, if I gave up on a favorite actor every time he/she made a questionable career choice or appeared in a movie/show I didn't care for, I might as well sell my TV then move to Antarctica where there aren't any movie theaters.
At least, not last I heard. Heh.
So am I thrilled that the secret project may be Smallville? Nope. But there are definitely some positive things about it.
1) I "fell in love" with JM for his phenomenal acting talent, as well as his uncanny ability to take what could have been a one-dimensional character in the hands of a lesser actor and turn him into one of the most fascinating fictional characters ever. I look forward to seeing him do the same thing again in the future, possibly even on Smallville.
2) JM back on my TV screen! Yay!
3) Steady paycheck for JM. The man has to make a living, and while we may recognize and appreciate his tremendous talent and screen presence, not everyone does. If so, he'd have at least four Emmies sitting on his mantelpiece.
4) Puts him in a better position for a Spike movie. The WB owns Smallville, so if concrete plans suddenly materialize for a Spike movie on the WB, the network would be willing to work around any scheduling conflicts. And what if it's all part of a package deal? "Hey! Come work for us on Smallville until we can get that Spike movie thing ironed out!" That way, he doesn't get tied up with something else in the meantime.
Okay, okay...not likely, I know. But, hey! It's within the realm of possibility. Heh.
