BSG: My theory on the final Cylon is …

Last weekend I finally got to sit down and watch all of this season’s episodes, which I’d been recording. So I’m finally caught up.
Now I’m waiting on pins and needles for tonight’s episode to air and I’m wondering if the identity of the final Cylon will finally be revealed. I don’t for a second believe Laura is one of the Final Five. I think D’Anna is either yanking her chain, or the Sci-Fi Channel is yanking ours by making it look like she was speaking to Laura when she was really talking to someone else, possibly Anders.
(And just for the record, I don’t think the Final Cylon is Adama, Lee or Starbuck either.)
At one point in my marathon viewing, I was certain I had it figured out. Now, not so much. I was sure it was going to be Callie. I had it all reasoned out (mostly). Heh.
See, they’ve been making this huge hairy deal about Hera and the fact that she’s “special” and important to the Cylon race and has some kind of mysterious destiny. But that was when she was the only human-Cylon hybrid child. Once we found out Tyrol was also a Cylon, Hera lost her unique position as the only human-Cylon hybrid. Or did she?
My reasoning was this: What if she was still the only hybrid? If Callie was a Cylon, then that would make her son with Tyrol the first full Cylon. (Just because it’s never happened before, doesn’t mean it never will. The next step in the Cylon’s evolution, so to speak.) And maybe their son (can’t remember his name) was really the child with a destiny, not Hera.
But then Callie got blown out of an airlock, along with my theory. Heh.
Now it’s been slightly adjusted. What if Helo is the final Cylon? He’s on the base ship and could ostensibly be the one D’Anna was talking to and Laura’s reaction could have been shock at witnessing this revelation. It doesn’t make quite as much dramatic sense to me, since what would be the point of Tyrol and Callie’s son? None, that I can see in this scenario, unless it’s to let us know that a male Cylon can father a child, just as we already know a female Cylon can conceive and give birth. But even with that reasoning, he (the son) still seems superfluous to the plot. I dunno.
After watching the last ep, I also wondered about Doc Cottle. Something about the way Natalie reached out to him and the way he comforted her by taking her hand. Hmmm…
Then again, he is a doctor and compassion for another living being isn’t out of character for him. Maybe they just wanted to make us wonder. The truth is, I just don’t see the drama in his being the Final Cylon. And not much drama if Gaeta turned out to be the one either, so I definitely don’t think it’s him.
There’s Dee, of course, but even though she was Lee’s wife (Dee & Lee, hee!), I don’t think it’s her either. She’s not interesting enough as a character (for me, anyway) for it to be an OMG moment. She and Lee are over. She’s not doing anything else right now. Why would we care if she turned out to be the Final Cylon?
I actually think it would be cool if it turned out to be Tom Zarek, but again that seems unlikely. For one thing, he’s too obvious. For another, where’s the drama? Sure, there’s his past to consider, but that’s what it is…the past. And, yes, he’s VP, but he’s not the Prez now, thanks to Lee’s swearing in. So what would be the point?
Nope, since Callie’s dead, I’m going with Helo or maaaybe Doc Cottle (though, again, why would it be him, dramatically speaking).
Of course, it will probably turn out to be none of the above and by the time anyone reads this we may already know the answer. :-)
And may I just say before I post this and run, that I love, love, love the fact that Adama stayed behind to wait for Laura! ::romantic sigh::
