Well...almost. I got hooked up to Comcast Friday. And, wow, what a difference from dial-up! I was on for a few minutes Saturday, but when I cranked up the laptop on Sunday, intending to do a little catching up in LJ Land, Comcast said, "Nope. Not until you download and install our software."
No matter what URL I tried, it always redirected me to the Comcast page. I didn't want to mess with it then, so I shut down my Mac and did some housework instead. I still haven't installed the software, but on a whim tonight I tried dial-up, which I hadn't cancelled yet. And in one of life's little ironies, after two weeks of no connection, dial-up is suddenly working again. Huh. I'm thinking someone was more successful than I was in getting them to come out and fix the phone lines. Someone with Verizon DSL, methinks.
Thing is, I don't really want the Comcast software and I know it isn't needed to connect to the Internet. So before I call Comcast about this, can anyone tell me if I can get away with not installing the software, or is Comcast going to insist on it?
And if you've got a Mac, what are the upsides or downsides to having the Comcast software? Am I making a mountain out of a molehill?
I just don't like being forced to use their software when it isn't necessary. I want it to be my choice. That's one reason I don't like AOL. I find that kind of thing very annoying.
And shouldn't there be a mood icon for pouting? Heh.
