Okay, it was a little silly for me to offer to write fanfic for hurricane relief donations. For one, I think watching the news coverage is a far more compelling incentive to donate than a story from me would ever be. And two, I don’t have the following that many of our excellent Buffy writers do…ergo, no takers.
Hey! Maybe I should offer NOT to write fanfic! Heh.
I’m kidding, really, lest anyone think my feelings are hurt. They’re not. Truly. Like I said, I feel a little foolish now, but I just got swept up in that wave of wanting to do something but not knowing what it could be, outside of donating to various agencies.
But when I got no takers, I kept thinking and thinking and then the light bulb went on. Duh. Evacuees are being brought to Texas, and some of them are arriving in my area. I’m on vacation this week with plans to tackle various projects around the house. Why not put my free time to better use?
I know they’ve already got more volunteers than they need at the two main locations, but there are some secondary shelters (at least one in my county) that may need help. Or they could need some relief by the end of the week.
And if they don’t, then that’s good, too. Because it means we have a wonderfully giving and responsive community with no shortage of people eager to show they care.
