I'm trying this new crossposting thing for the first time. Thanks to the always lovely [personal profile] calturner , I now have a DW account. (Every time I see that, I think Dr. Who. Heh. Methinks my fandom roots are showing.)

Hate to hear about the DDoS attacks. Hope LJ and freedom of speech prevails in the end. I'll figure out this DW/LJ thing as I'm able.

I almost have the last chapter of Marking Time ready to post. Pretty sure it will be the penultimate chapter. If I don't have to work late, I may be able to finish it in the next day or two. ::fingers crossed::

I've also been working on my [community profile] seasonal_spuffy  offerings. I look forward to catching up on all the great fics, icons and more!

Yay! Thanks to lovely Tech Guy, I have my Firefox back and can use the lovely Rich Text feature to post the next chapter of Marking Time. Soooo, here it be.

Since the last two updates have been so recent, I’m foregoing the usual recap. If you need a refresher of earlier chapters, you can find it at the beginning of Chapter 21.

I'll try to get the next installment cranked out as soon as possible. In the meantime, hope you enjoy!

Chapter 23 )
annapurna_2: (Default)
Okay, Chapter 23 of Marking Time is ready to go, but I won't be posting it tonight after all. I'm having technical difficulties. I'm sure it's something that a 5-year-old could solve in two seconds flat. But, unfortunately at the moment, I'm not a 5-year-old. ::sigh::

I have an old laptop that uses the Mac OS X 10.3.9 operating system. I've been using Firefox 2.0.0.16 as my browser. I thought that was the latest version I could use. I know there was a reason for that. I'm pretty sure I googled it in the not too distant past.

Then last night, when I quit out of Firefox, it vanished. Completely. The only thing I could find was a very old version (1.0.4). It still has my bookmarks, including one that I made last night, but it's the ooooolder version.

So I googled tonight to find the latest version I could download again. Only this time I found a couple of forums saying I could download and use version 2.0.0.20. So I did.

But when I went in to install it, suddenly the 2.0.0.16 was there again. But, like the 2.0.0.20 version, it's the dmg file and is not installed.

So now I've got the old version and two different uninstalled versions.

Can anyone tell me what I should do? Otherwise, I'll ask one of the tech guys at work tomorrow and hopefully be able to straighten things out and get the next chapter posted. Right now, I'd have to use html coding to post it, and I'm just waaaaaay too spoiled to go back to doing that if I don't have to.

Carved out some writing time today, so I only have a teeny bit left to do on the next chapter of Marking Time. If I don't run into any snags, I should get the next part posted tomorrow night. If not, then Tuesday or Wednesday. ::fingers crossed::

More fic!

It seems I’m on a fic-posting roll! Um…or maybe I shouldn’t say that. I don’t want to jinx it. Heh.

At any rate, here’s another fic I want to put in my Memories. Actually, it’s a series of drabbles that read as one ficlet and was originally written for [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy  2007.

This is a post-and-run. I brought work home. ::les sigh::

So here you go…

Beginnings )
annapurna_2: (Default)

Probably won’t have another chapter of Marking Time to post this week, but I am making headway on it. This makes me happy. :-)

In the meantime, in honor of Valentine’s Day tomorrow, here’s a silly little Randy & Joan ficlet that deals with the more mundane aspects of a relationship. At least, as mundane as it ever gets in good old Sunnydale. Previously posted for [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy  2008. (But now I want in my Memories, so I’m dusting it off and posting it here.)

Happy Valentine's Day! )

Or more likely, I was so sleepy I did something wrong. I started to make another post just now and got a message asking if I wanted LJ to "restore saved draft"...so here it is, a few days late.

Until I can finish responding individually, just wanted to say thanks so much for the lovely comments on the latest fics! Had to bring work home tonight and now I'm veeeery sleepy, so it's off to bed. Fingers crossed I won't have to bring home more work tomorrow. ::sigh::

In the meantime...muchas gracias! :-)

Wound up having to bring work home the next night, too. And last night I crashed early. I got a new position at work. Not a promotion, technically, but a step up. Also quite a bit more work, especially right now while I'm transitioning between the two. Hopefully it will be better once the switch is complete, but I don't think that's too likely. Heh.

Hopefully, too, I'll get a decent raise next month, but that remains to be seen. ::fingers crossed::

Back with another installment of Marking Time. Sorry I didn’t post this last night. I fell asleep in my chair. Sheesh.

Sooo…we’re moving right along here with a little silliness, a little action, a little angst and a big heart-to-heart. In the interests of wrapping up the story, I’m forgoing the usual polishing. As usual, criticism and corrections are always welcome.

I really think this part works better if you can start with the previous chapter and read it straight through. I didn’t want to split them up, but they were just too long to keep as one part. So if you’ve got the time and inclination, click here for Chapter 21. ::imploring eyes::

And with that in mind, don’t hold me to it since this isn’t the first time I’ve had to split up chapters that ran longer than expected, but I’m thinking about three more should do it! ::fingers crossed::

Chapter 22 )
annapurna_2: (Default)
I finished the latest chapter of Marking Time yesterday. I'm letting it marinate for 24 hours. I'll give it a quick read-through later tonight and get it posted.

In the meantime, I sitll have a few fics that are posted elsewhere but not here. I want to put them in my Memories, sooo...here's the first one. It's a post-Chosen/post-NFA ficlet that disregards the Season 8 comics.

First, thanks again to all for your good wishes. Dad is doing really well and Mom is doing better. So, yay!

I'm back with another installment of Marking Time. This chapter got a wee bit long, so I’ve split it into two. Should be posting the next one very soon. Just have a teeny bit to finish up.

Hope this one is not too heavy handed. I want my characters to be…well…in character. Heh. Usually I feel like I’m a pretty fair judge of my own efforts, but this one I’m not sure about. Going without a beta is a definite drawback here, especially since I’m trying to write faster to get things wrapped up.

Like before, please, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you spot any problems. If it’s not a quick fix, I’ll go back and work on it after I’m done or try to address it in the next chapter.

Anyhoo, here’s the next bit, with the usual detailed recap so you don’t to go back and re-read. I’m not sure, but I think I can officially claim the title for World’s Longest-Running Work in Progress that’s still…you know…actually in progress. ::facepalm::

Well, when I posted the last new chapter of Marking Time back in September, the plan was to write straight through to the end of the story and get it wrapped up by the end of the year. As usual,  Life had other plans.

Found out my Dad had cancer, and my Mom got sick at the same time. Things got challenging for a while. But God has been good to us and my Dad’s prognosis is excellent. Mom is still up and down, but doing better overall.

No writing got done during this time, but I had the next installment almost finished so hopefully I can get the latest chapter posted soon. When I signed back on to LJ, I wasn’t sure who would still be here and who wouldn’t, since interests and time commitments change and people tend to move on. Skimming quickly through my flist, it makes me happy to see that most of you are still here, still soldiering on.

I have to admit that 2010 will not go down as my favorite year. It’s been hard in a lot of ways. But good things have come out of bad, and as difficult as it’s been at times, it was never more than I could handle. God has blessed me with a wonderful family and friends, and for that I’m truly thankful.

So to all of my LJ friends, I wish you a very, very happy and rewarding New Year. Here’s hoping brighter things lie ahead in 2011…for all of us.

Hope all of you are well and happy and keeping out of trouble (except for the good kind). Life continues to be crazy hectic on this end. Some very good, some pretty bad, but mostly in between.

Did some writing over the recent holiday. I’ve managed to finish another chapter of Marking Time. Under different circumstances, I would ask the excellent [livejournal.com profile] pennydrdful  if she could work her beta magic on it before posting, as she has with many of the previous chapters, but my aim is to keep the momentum going so I can finally wrap up the story by the end of the year at the latest.

That means skipping polishing and revisions for now. I tend to get bogged down in it. Kind of have a hard time letting go. Heh. So I’ve come up with a plan to write straight through to the end, posting as I finish each chapter, and holding off on revisions till it’s done.

That said, I welcome any and all suggestions/corrections. Please, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you spot any problems. If it’s not a quick fix, I’ll go back and work on it after I’m done or try to address it in the next chapter. Which hopefully will also be posted soon, since it’s half written. (This chapter was running too long so I had to cut it off.)

In the meantime, hope you enjoy the new chapter. As usual, it starts with a recap of the previous chapters to get you up to speed without having to re-read. (Almost longer now than the chapter itself. Ha!)

And away we go... )

Ohmigosh. It’s [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy  time! Methinks I picked a good week to look in on LJ again.

Also, finally posting the next chapter of "Marking Time." I was going to split it into two parts since it’s a long-ish chapter, but I can’t really find a good breaking point.

If you’re still along for the ride…yay! Thank you very much. And I frequently forget to say it, but constructive criticism is always welcome.

As usual, I’ve included a refresher recap of the action thus far. Or if you’re a glutton for punishment, you can find the previous 18 chapters here.

Read on for Chapter 19... )

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I last posted to my LJ. It’s crazy how the time gets away.

I just did some final tweaking to the latest chapter of Marking Time. Actually had it finished months ago, but it’s been a hard year. Various family crises, friends in need, some personal health issues and mucho home repairs, to name a few.

I finally lost Purna dog after a long battle with liver cancer. My brave, amazing girl put up a good fight. Whenever I was sure it was time to let her go, she’d bounce right back. But she kept throwing us curve balls, and finally the bad periods were coming too frequently and lasting too long.

A few weeks later, I rescued a new baby. She was in bad shape, but I got her healthy and happy and fell totally in love. Then she had an apparent heart attack and was gone in just a few seconds. I still miss her terribly.

On the up side, my biopsy came back benign and I now have another rescued baby who is a total delight. And I’m enjoying the relative quiet right now for however long it may last.

I’ve also had some laptop woes. Finally got it fixed, but now it’s started overheating so I can only use it for short periods at a time. Speaking of which, it’s getting a teeny bit toasty as I type this, so no chapter tonight. I’ll shoot for tomorrow night instead.

I’m hoping all of you are well and happy. I do want to catch up. It’s nice to know that no matter what else happens, LJ goes on. Heh.

...just in case you were wondering. Replies to the latest comments, as well as the next fic posting, won't happen until tomorrow night. Had a huge fire to put out at work and didn't get home until very late. I knew I shouldn't have said anything! I always jinx myself! Heh.
annapurna_2: (Default)

Okay, here's the next one up. Unless something unexpected comes up, I should be back tomorrow night with another fic.

Title: No Day But Today
Author: annapurna_2
Rating: PG
Summary: A little “fill-in-the-blanks” Spuffy ficlet set directly post-Lies My Parents Told Me. What might have happened after Buffy closed the door on Giles. A little bit angsty.
A/N: Written for the Fall 2008 round of Seasonal Spuffy. The theme was "obstacles.”

I can't believe I'm actually back again just one week after my last post. I know! What's up with that?

I come bearing fic. No, I haven't zoomed through the next chapter of Marking Time. (Ha! As if.) But the other day when I was posting the latest installment, it dawned on me that there are quite a few fics that I have posted elsewhere, but not here. I'd like to have everything in my LJ memories, so I'll be adding them as I can.

First up is a post-Chosen/pre-NFA ficlet:

Mea culpa. Still around, believe it or not. Work and a bazillion other things have kept me preoccupied and away from LJ this year, although that’s nothing new or different. Purna Dad had open-heart surgery, a stay in the hospital and is now on the road to recovery via rehab, albeit with a few speed bumps here and there, but overall he’s doing remarkably well. Purna Dog went into liver failure (with a side helping of pancreatitis) a few months ago. Things have improved, but we’re still not out of the woods.

I’m also still working on Marking Time (for inquiring minds that want to know). And to prove it, I come bearing the latest chapter. I’m ashamed to say I’ve actually had this for a loooong time. I finished it just as Purna Dog started her downhill slide. This comes to you without the excellent beta services of [livejournal.com profile] pennydrdful , who made previous chapters better than they would have been otherwise, but I have to strike while I can.

Hope you all are well. I’d like to say I plan to become a participating member of LJ again, but I’ve said that before and it hasn’t happened yet. The hope remains, but the only commitment I’m making at this point is to finish the darn WIP!

::deep breath::

There’s a synopsis at the beginning to refresh your memory, but for those crazy enough to re-read previous chapters, you can find them here.

Now, on with the show... )

Whoopsie!

I'm working on the next chapter and just realized I may have made a teeny continuity boo-boo in Marking Time. When I originally wrote about the button-down shirt Giles loaned to Spike, it was black. But somewhere along the way, I got it into my head that it was white. It's possible I've referred to it that way in a later chapter, though I haven't checked yet.

I remember that I waffled back and forth about what color it should be. (Kinda silly, huh?) But since the question has arisen, I thought I'd ask.

Any thoughts on which it should be: Black, white, or who cares?

Popping in to wish everyone a very, very Happy New Year with all the wonderful things that life can bring. It won't be all sunshine and roses, but I hope the good will far outweigh the bad in 2009.

And many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] spikeskat , [livejournal.com profile] spikesdeb  and all those involved with the Rogue Poet Awards! Most especially, thank you to the lovely person who nominated Mortgage Crisis. What a lovely present for the New Year. I didn't even know it had been nominated!

Congratulations to the other winners and nominees. Brava!

Must run now. Have a lovely day!
