I came online tonight planning to post links to agencies/organizations in need of donations for the ongoing disaster-relief efforts, in particular the American Red Cross. The need is just staggering. But of course the wonderful members of the LJ community are already on top of that.

To help with animal rescue efforts, you can go to The Humane Society of the United States. There's also Noah’s Wish. Just scroll halfway down the page to click on the donation link. NW accepts donations by mail or through PayPal. Many thanks to

Also, if anyone has links not covered here, please feel free to post them in comments.
And on a final note, I’m joining the list of fanfic authors offering to write a short fic in return for a donation of $10 or more to disaster-relief efforts. If anyone’s interested, I’ll take the first two people who post. Name your rating (G through R), characters (up to 3), a premise or two things you would like to see, and a timeline (season or between seasons, etc.).
My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the hurricane survivors, refugees, the courageous rescue workers, and the animals.

No, they don't...for any of us. But right now, it's all most of us can do. Perhaps later there will be other ways.
I was considering driving down there since I'm on vacation for the next week, but they're turning people away because they're being overwhelmed and can't manage everything.
A huge number of evacuees are being bussed to my area, so maybe there will be something I can do here.
